Enugu Begins Renovation of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Into an All-Seater Venue
Enugu State has begun upgrading the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, with plans to convert it into an all-seater, fully covered venue. The images show the proposed look of the stadium after completion, alongside its condition before work commenced. Originally opened in 1959 as the Enugu Township Stadium, the facility later became the home ground of Rangers International. It was renovated in 1970 and again in 1986, when it was renamed Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. The renovation is part of a wider effort to revive Nigeria's ageing major sports venues. Rangers International are currently playing their home matches at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta while work continues in Enugu.
