Inside Johannesburg’s Nelson Mandela Suite, Named Africa’s Best Hotel Suite
The Nelson Mandela Platinum Suite at Johannesburg’s Saxon Hotel has been named Africa’s leading hotel suite by the World Travel Awards. The suite is in Sandhurst, within the hotel that also received recognition as Africa’s leading boutique hotel. Named after Nelson Mandela, the suite is where he edited his autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom. The 400-square-metre space has two bedrooms, a lounge, workspace, butler’s kitchen and a private balcony overlooking the hotel gardens. Guests receive 24-hour butler service, meals and drinks, airport transfers, spa access and champagne on arrival. While the hotel does not publicly list the suite’s rate, booking platforms place a night’s stay at about R86,200.
