Nigeria Evacuates Imported Ebola Patient to Switzerland After Clinical Improvement
The Federal Government has evacuated Nigeria’s first imported case of Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease to Switzerland after the patient showed significant clinical improvement. Health Minister Muhammad Pate said the patient was stable, conscious and communicating, although she could still be infectious. Her spouse, who travelled with her, had not shown symptoms. Nigeria confirmed the case on October 20 after the woman, who had recently travelled from Uganda, sought treatment in Abuja. Health authorities identified 53 contacts, including health workers and domestic staff, and said none had tested positive as of the latest update. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention says contact tracing, surveillance and infection-control measures remain in place. Nigerians have been urged to rely on verified health information and report suspected symptoms promptly.
