2027 Study Travel: What Nigerians Should Know Before Choosing Italy, France, Slovakia or Romania
As the UK, Canada and Australia tighten student rules and raise financial requirements, many Nigerian families are looking towards Europe for 2027 study plans. But low tuition alone does not guarantee an affordable or successful relocation. Visa rules, document legalisation, proof of funds and embassy access can add major costs. Italy offers relatively low public tuition and regional scholarships, but applicants need strong financial records and early document processing. France has a structured Campus France and VFS process, with a required monthly proof of funds and strict application timelines. Both countries may accept institutional English-language letters for some programmes, although a recognised test score can strengthen an application. Slovakia may appear affordable, but Nigerian applicants may need to travel to Nairobi or Cairo for biometrics and visa submission, creating significant extra costs. Romania requires applicants to pay a full year of tuition before visa processing and obtain a Ministry of Education acceptance letter, which can take several weeks. Applicants should treat admission, scholarship selection and visa approval as separate stages. Before paying fees for the 2027 intake, confirm the school’s entry requirements, available embassy appointments, accepted proof-of-funds documents and the full cost of travel logistics.
