Trump Claims US Reached Permanent Greenland Security Deal
US President Donald Trump says Washington has reached an agreement with Denmark and Greenland to secure permanent access for US defence operations on the Arctic island. Trump said the arrangement would expand the American military presence and prevent US adversaries from establishing bases, deploying troops or making sensitive investments in Greenland. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the deal as a lasting protection of US security interests in the Arctic. However, the agreement’s full text has not been released. Danish and Greenlandic authorities had not issued detailed public statements, while questions remain over financing, troop numbers, proposed sites and the timeline for any military expansion. The US has maintained a military relationship with Greenland for decades and already operates Pituffik Space Base, which supports missile warning, missile defence and space surveillance.
