Telecom Outages Raise Questions Ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 Elections
I believe Nigerians should demand clear answers about persistent telecom disruptions. Reports say 577 network outages were recorded in the first quarter, including 361 linked to fibre cuts and 144 blamed on power failures at base stations. Some sites in Niger, Sokoto, Katsina, Kwara and other states have reportedly remained offline for months. With similar complaints now emerging in major cities, telecom providers should explain the causes, publish restoration timelines and show what they are doing to prevent prolonged service failures. Reliable communication will be vital during the 2027 elections. I am not claiming that the outages are deliberate, but Nigerians deserve assurance that they will be able to call, report events and share information when it matters most.
