Igboho Vows to Expose Politicians Funding Oriire School Kidnappers
Yoruba nationalist and security activist Sunday Igboho has accused unnamed politicians of backing the armed gangs behind the Oriire school abductions in Oyo State. He spoke at a meeting with the National Association of Nigerian Students president, after 39 pupils and seven teachers were abducted on May 15. One teacher died in the attack. Igboho claims he has the capacity to rescue the captives but was blocked by the state government. He warned that if political support for the kidnappers continues, he will publicly name those financing and arming the bandits. President Tinubu has condemned the abductions as “barbaric” and ordered a specialised rescue team and more forest guards. Governor Makinde says he is working with federal operatives to secure the victims’ release.
