Reps Seek Probe into Alleged Illegal Quarrying in Abia’s Imobi Community
The House of Representatives has received a petition from Eze Sir Simeon C. Chukwuemeka of Imobi Autonomous Community. The monarch alleges that Limei International Company and some locals facilitated unlawful quarry operations in Achara Uturu, Isuikwuato LGA. According to the petition, the company obtained a nine-unit quarry lease from the Nigerian Mining Cadastre Office using a consent letter signed by unauthorized individuals. One signatory even claimed to be the community’s paramount ruler without any recognized title. Imobi leaders say they wrote to mining authorities to revoke the license and have filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Umuahia. They warn that the disputed operation could threaten peace and order in the area. Presenting the petition, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah urged the National Assembly to ensure due process in licensing and protect host-community rights. The matter has been referred to the relevant House committee for further investigation.
