Kebbi NLC Defends Idris Government, Challenges Malami to Provide Evidence on Workers’ Claims
The Kebbi State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress has defended the Nasir Idris administration’s workers’ welfare record after ADC governorship candidate Abubakar Malami alleged that workers were suffering from unpaid pensions, stalled promotions and salary deductions. NLC chairman Murtala Usman said the union had maintained regular negotiations with the government since 2023. He cited the implementation of a ₦75,000 minimum wage, timely salaries, pensions and gratuities, teacher and health-worker recruitment, and improved transport and healthcare facilities. Usman said workers still had legitimate concerns about inflation, promotions, allowances and career progression. He urged Malami and other political actors to present evidence for alleged unpaid entitlements and to campaign with realistic, sustainable programmes for workers.
