Are There More Job Seekers Than Available Jobs Worldwide?
I have been thinking about the level of unemployment, not only in Nigeria but across the world. Nigeria may be among the countries with high unemployment, but many other countries are also facing the same challenge. It does not seem to be only about people being selective about jobs. Even risky and low-paying roles often have many applicants. Almost every vacancy appears to attract intense competition. My own job search has made this more obvious to me. Despite the skills I have acquired, I see dozens of applications shortly after jobs are posted on freelance platforms and job boards. It makes me wonder how anyone is expected to stand out. Are there now more job seekers than the global economy can adequately employ, or is the problem something else?
