FOSAD Condemns Ethnic Profiling of Igbos in Fake Product Debate
The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors has condemned the alleged ethnic profiling of Igbo people in conversations about counterfeit drugs, adulterated drinks, contaminated food and other unsafe consumer products. The group said criminal allegations against specific traders, manufacturers or distributors must be investigated with evidence and should not be used to blame an entire ethnic community. It stressed that every offender should face the law, regardless of ethnic, religious or regional identity. FOSAD urged public commentators to avoid language that could deepen prejudice or ethnic hostility. It also called on NAFDAC to strengthen surveillance, testing and enforcement against fake and adulterated products, while communicating its findings transparently. The group maintained that protecting consumers is a shared public-health responsibility and that accountability must be impartial.
