Ilenikhena Scores Twice Against Al Nassr: Is He Ready to Back Up Osimhen for Nigeria?
George Ilenikhena strengthened his case for a Super Eagles call-up with two goals in Al Ittihad’s 2-1 Saudi Pro League win over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr. The 20-year-old scored a header after four minutes and added a fine acrobatic finish before half-time. The brace took Ilenikhena to five goals in five league matches this season. Al Ittihad reportedly signed the Lagos-born forward from Monaco for €33 million in February, making him the most expensive Nigerian teenager in football history. Ilenikhena committed his international future to Nigeria in July after talks with Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle. With Victor Osimhen nursing an injury, his recent form could earn him a place in the squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. The striker has already made his mark in Europe, scoring Champions League goals against Barcelona for both Antwerp and Monaco. The question now is whether his form is enough to make him Osimhen’s understudy for the Super Eagles.
