Guard Your Heart: Protecting Your Mind and Spirit
Proverbs 4:23 teaches believers to guard their hearts diligently because the issues of life flow from within. In Scripture, the heart represents our thoughts, desires, emotions, intentions and decisions. What we watch, listen to, think about and allow to influence us can shape our character and actions. Bitterness can affect relationships, while gratitude, love and compassion can become visible in the way we live. Philippians 4:8 offers a guide for healthy thinking: focus on what is true, pure, just, lovely and worthy of praise. We may not stop every thought from coming, but we can choose which thoughts to entertain.
