Onanuga, NANS Challenge Dino Melaye’s Claim on NELFUND Student Loans

A dispute has emerged over the Nigerian Education Loan Fund after former Kogi West senator Dino Melaye alleged that the scheme gives students only ₦20,000 yearly instead of covering their school fees. Melaye described the Federal Government’s student loan programme as a “haven of corruption” in a video circulated online. The National Association of Nigerian Students rejected the claim, saying discussions about the scheme should be based on accurate information. NANS also questioned Melaye’s record on student support during his time in the Senate. Presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga backed the student body’s position and described Melaye’s allegation as false. Melaye had not publicly responded at the time of the report. The exchange has renewed debate over the implementation and impact of NELFUND for tertiary students.
