Abia Wedding Called Off a Day Before Ceremony Over Planned Idu Uno Expenses
A wedding scheduled for Saturday, 19 September 2026, in Abia State was reportedly cancelled a day before the ceremony. The bride’s family had been planning for her idu uno, the customary send-off items after marriage. A relative expected to fund the items was said to be abroad and asked that the ceremony be moved to December, when he could return and provide support. The bride reportedly informed the groom three days before the wedding. Although both sides tried to resolve the issue, the wedding was called off. Reactions have been divided, with some blaming the groom for refusing to wait and others accusing the bride’s family of allowing the uncle’s absence to disrupt the marriage plans. The incident has sparked debate about family involvement, wedding expenses and how couples should handle last-minute setbacks.
