Delta Extends Retirement Age for Doctors, Nurses and Other Clinical Health Workers to 65
Delta State has raised the retirement age for eligible clinical health workers in government hospitals from 60 to 65 years, or 40 years of service, whichever comes first. The policy covers 26 clinical professions, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, physiotherapists, radiographers, dental officers and community health officers. It is intended to reduce staff shortages and retain experienced personnel in public hospitals. Eligible workers must apply through their Chief Medical Directors at least six months before turning 60 or completing 35 years of service. Applicants must also submit a medical fitness certificate for approval by the state Ministry of Health. The extension applies only to clinical workers directly serving in government hospitals, not those in ministries or extra-ministerial departments.
