Police Reportedly Arrest, Release ASUU-IMSU Officials After Strike Announcement

Police in Imo State reportedly arrested officials of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Imo State University branch, shortly after they appeared on a radio programme to discuss their newly declared indefinite strike. Those reportedly detained included the branch chairman, Stephen Oguji. The union began the strike over alleged non-implementation of an agreement covering lecturers’ welfare and conditions of service. The officials were reportedly released after several hours of questioning. The police had not commented at the time of the report. The action comes as IMSU prepares for examinations, raising concerns among students about possible disruption to the academic calendar.
