Nollywood actor Ugo Nwokolo has sparked debate after claiming that proceeds from internet fraud, commonly called Yahoo, help sustain parts of Nigeria’s economy amid rising living costs. He cited high rents in Abuja and Lagos, arguing that many civil servants cannot afford housing priced in the millions of naira. According to him, fraudsters are often the people paying such rents. Nwokolo said he was not endorsing crime. He maintained that his remarks were an observation about how difficult survival has become for many Nigerians.
