Imo Police Arrest Driver Over Fatal Alleged Street-Racing Crash Near IMSU
The Imo State Police Command has arrested 30-year-old Dike Chibuike Micheal over a fatal crash outside Imo State University, Owerri, on Sunday evening, July 26, 2026. Police said the suspect was allegedly driving a Lexus ES 350 at excessive speed and taking part in an unauthorised street race when he hit 19-year-old Chibuike Friday, who was crossing the road. The vehicle reportedly then lost control and struck another man, Bright Ukwuoma. Both victims were taken to hospital, where Chibuike Friday was confirmed dead. Bright Ukwuoma is receiving treatment. The suspect was arrested at the scene after officers reportedly rescued him from an angry mob. The police commissioner has ordered a full investigation and said the suspect will be prosecuted when the investigation is concluded.
