Lagos Police Arrest Two, Recover Suspected Counterfeit Drugs in Warehouse Raid
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the alleged repackaging and interstate trafficking of counterfeit and adulterated medicines in Lagos. The suspects were arrested at a warehouse in Otto, where officers reportedly found pharmaceutical products being prepared for distribution. Police said a follow-up search at another warehouse led to the recovery of a truckload of suspected adulterated drugs, including about 300 cartons of Omeprazole, unpackaged Viagra, Ampiclox, Septrin and Piriton. Officers also recovered empty printed packs and cartons allegedly used to repackage fake medicines. Investigators believe the syndicate may have operated for more than two years, distributing products across Nigeria and to Lomé, Togo. The police said alleged attempts to bribe officers handling the case were rejected. The suspects, exhibits and case file have been handed to NAFDAC for further investigation and regulatory action.
