CCTV footage shows an emergency-room nurse restraining an intoxicated patient who allegedly became violent at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. The patient was reportedly abusive to staff, spat on the floor and threw items before being escorted out around 2am. He then allegedly lunged at the nurse, who used more than 10 years of jiu-jitsu training to subdue him until security arrived. The nurse said the incident highlights the risks faced by healthcare workers. He stressed that violence and abuse should never be treated as part of their job.
