Nico Williams’ Agent Explains Why Barcelona Transfer Talks Collapsed
Nico Williams’ agent, Félix Tainta, says Barcelona could not provide firm guarantees that the winger would be registered to play because of the club’s financial and salary-cap constraints. Tainta said negotiations were advanced, but Williams’ camp could not accept the risk of the player being unable to play during an important period of his career. He added that the player needed stability, particularly with the 2026 World Cup approaching. Williams ultimately stayed at Athletic Club and signed a long-term contract extension in July 2025. Barcelona, meanwhile, continued to build their attacking options after the failed move.
