One Killed in Ogute-ke as Dispute Over Girlfriend Triggers Arson in Edo

A dispute between two youths over an alleged girlfriend at a wake in Ogute-ke, Okpella, Etsako East LGA, Edo State turned deadly on June 12, 2026. One of the men was slashed with a machete and later died in hospital. Enraged residents armed themselves and went to the suspect’s home. Finding it empty, they set four houses ablaze before fleeing the scene. The Edo State Police Command said three suspects have been arrested in connection with the reprisal attack, and investigations are ongoing.
