Infantino Apologises Over Proposed Sale of Future World Cup Stakes
FIFA president Gianni Infantino has apologised to the FIFA Council for failing to disclose plans to sell a 20% stake in future FIFA tournaments early enough. European football leaders, including UEFA representatives, reportedly remain dissatisfied and want full details of the proposal. UEFA is seeking documents on the proposed deal, arguing that the stake may have been offered below its true value. Some officials are also said to be calling for Infantino to resign. FIFA’s Peace Prize, awarded to US President Donald Trump in 2025, is also under review and may be discontinued. The council will receive findings on the award, disciplinary procedures and a proposed funding increase for member associations at its December 2026 meeting.
