COPSUN Challenges UNIOSUN VC Tenure Extension, Seeks Stronger NUC Oversight

The Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State-Owned Universities has urged the National Universities Commission to assert stronger control over university regulation and limit overlapping interventions by professional bodies. The committee said repeated resource verification, accreditation, indexing, induction and licensing exercises were placing pressure on universities and causing accreditation fatigue. It wants professional bodies represented on NUC-led accreditation teams rather than acting independently. COPSUN also questioned the reported two-year extension of the UNIOSUN Vice-Chancellor's tenure beyond the statutory five-year term. It asked Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the university's Pro-Chancellor to follow the institution's existing law and due process.
