Soldier, Police Officer Killed as Bandits Abduct Dozens in Zamfara

A soldier and a police officer were killed after bandits attacked Kasuwar Daji District in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State in the early hours of Sunday, August 2, 2026. Residents said the attackers fired indiscriminately and went from house to house, allegedly searching for specific people. Soldiers, police officers and local vigilantes reportedly tried to repel the attack but were overwhelmed. A resident said more than 70 people, including women and children, may have been abducted as the attackers retreated into a nearby forest. Security authorities have not confirmed the number of victims. The attack follows recent raids in Kaura Namoda, including an assault on the Federal Polytechnic rector's residence, where a security guard was killed and several people were abducted before troops later rescued some victims.
