Is God’s Praise of Job Different From How We Praise Great People?
People proudly praise those they admire every day. Football fans argue over Messi and Ronaldo, while music fans debate Tupac and Biggie or Davido and Wizkid. In the book of Job, God describes Job as upright, God-fearing and someone who avoids evil. This sounds like praise for a person God highly esteems. Satan’s response also resembles the objections people make during everyday debates. He argues that Job fears God only because he is protected and blessed. If we understand praise and disagreement in ordinary conversations, why is this passage so difficult for some people to understand?
