Tinubu Targets $64bn Livestock Sector to Boost Food Production and Jobs

President Bola Tinubu says the Federal Government aims to raise the livestock sector’s annual contribution to Nigeria’s economy from more than $32 billion to $64 billion. Speaking at the All Africa Conference on Animal Agriculture in Abuja, Tinubu said the plan is intended to improve food security, reduce dairy imports, attract investment and create jobs across production, processing, logistics, technology and exports. He said the government will pursue ranching, better animal-health services, improved genetics, commercial feed production, dairy infrastructure and climate-smart practices. The strategy also seeks to reduce conflicts linked to traditional livestock production and expand opportunities for women and young people. Tinubu added that Nigeria will work with other African countries through regional trade and cooperation to tackle animal diseases, climate risks and barriers to livestock trade.
