1 / 3

Mexican authorities have arrested Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayala, an alleged senior figure in the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, over the May 2025 killing of fashion and beauty influencer Valeria Márquez. Márquez, 23, was shot dead at her beauty salon in Jalisco while livestreaming to her followers. The attacker reportedly asked for her by name before opening fire. Mexico’s security chief alleged that Álvarez Ayala arranged the killing after his son, Francisco Álvarez, who had previously dated Márquez, contacted him. Authorities say the suspect had allegedly threatened her before the attack. Francisco Álvarez and the gunman accused of carrying out the shooting have not been arrested. Álvarez Ayala is also wanted in connection with the 2025 killing of Uruapan mayor Carlos Manzo.
