FG, Ogun Explore Dairy Investment, Research and Farmer Support for Livestock Growth
The Federal Government and Ogun State are seeking closer collaboration with private investors and researchers to expand livestock production, improve food security and create jobs. During a working visit to CWAY Nigeria Dairy and Food Products in Ogere, the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, said government would work to address business constraints and encourage investment across the livestock value chain. Ogun State also highlighted its poultry-farm partnership, involving pens with a combined capacity of 140,000 birds, and its farmers’ information management system. At the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, the minister called for more research into improved animal breeds, genetics, feed development and animal health. He said Nigeria must move beyond primary production into processing, value addition and commercial-scale livestock businesses.
