World Patient Safety Day 2026: Safer Care for People Living With Chronic Diseases
People living with noncommunicable diseases often need years of consultations, tests, medicines, referrals and treatment. Every stage of that journey should improve health, not expose patients to avoidable harm. This year’s focus is safe care for noncommunicable diseases. Delayed diagnoses, medication errors, harmful drug interactions, poor follow-up and weak communication between health services can put patients at risk. Stronger primary healthcare, clear referral systems, evidence-based treatment and open communication can make care safer. Patients and families can also help by staying informed, asking questions and taking part in decisions about treatment.
