US-Based Nigerian Paediatric Surgeon Tours New Massey Children’s Hospital Site
Professor Oluyinka Olutoye, a Nigerian paediatric surgeon based in the United States, visited the construction site of the New Massey Children’s Specialist Referral Hospital in Lagos. Professor Olutoye co-led the 2016 fetal surgery in which a life-threatening tumour was removed from an unborn baby, who was then returned to the womb and later delivered safely. He was joined by his wife, Professor Toyin Olutoye, a paediatric anaesthesiologist. The planned 150-bed hospital is expected to include paediatric and neonatal intensive care units, specialist medical and surgical services, training programmes and research partnerships. Professor Olutoye pledged support for the project’s goal of expanding specialised child healthcare in Lagos.
