NEC Greenlights N83.2bn Flood Intervention Fund as Shettima Calls for Tangible Reforms

NEC Greenlights N83.2bn Flood Intervention Fund as Shettima Calls for Tangible Reforms

At its 158th meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the National Economic Council approved ₦83.2 billion for the Anticipatory Action Task Force. The fund will help reduce the impact of flooding and other climate emergencies nationwide. The Budget and Economic Planning Minister outlined how proactive measures can replace costly emergency relief after disasters. Council members agreed to focus on prevention and early response during the rainy season. Vice President Shettima urged that government reforms deliver visible benefits for farmers, manufacturers, vulnerable groups and unemployed youths. He called on state governments to partner with the federal level to tackle logistical hurdles, boost access to global markets for agricultural produce and strengthen Nigeria’s resilience to climate threats.
