Tackling Hunger: Why Nigeria Must Make Farming Attractive to Young People
Nigeria needs urgent action to address worsening hunger. One practical step is to make farming a decent and rewarding source of work for unemployed young people. Government, private investors and cooperatives can support farmers with fair wages, safe housing, better working conditions, access to land and modern equipment. Farmland should also be protected from unchecked development. Countries that once faced severe food shortages improved production by investing in agriculture and attracting people back to the land. Nigeria can do the same by treating farming as a viable career rather than a last resort.
