Reports Raise Mental Health Concerns as USS Abraham Lincoln Crew Faces Extended Deployment

Reports from military-focused outlets say sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln are facing severe strain after an extended deployment linked to the US conflict with Iran. The aircraft carrier’s crew has reportedly spent about 250 consecutive days at sea, with the deployment extended beyond its original end date. Families and some US lawmakers have raised concerns over alleged poor living conditions, including water shortages, faulty toilets, mouldy showers, laundry problems and limited food supplies. Reports also described alleged incidents in which sailors attempted to go overboard, though these accounts have not been independently confirmed. The US Navy said it has not identified an increase in reported suicidal thoughts or attempts on the ship. It said medical personnel, chaplains and deployment-resilience counsellors are available, and maintained that the crew has access to clean water, air conditioning and healthy meals.
