Dumebi Kachikwu Declared Sole ADC Presidential Candidate, Mark-Led NWC Dissolved

Dumebi Kachikwu Declared Sole ADC Presidential Candidate, Mark-Led NWC Dissolved

The ADC faction backing Dumebi Kachikwu has officially dissolved the David Mark-led National Working Committee. At the Abuja convention, Elias Adikwu confirmed Kachikwu’s adoption as the party’s only presidential candidate for 2027. Newly elected National Chairman Abdulkadir Mohammed Bashir presented him with the party flag to formalise his mandate. Delegates also elected a new NWC, including Kingsley Oggah as Board of Trustees Chair and Johnny Tovie Derek as Deputy National Chairman. This move follows a rival April convention where Senator David Mark’s faction claimed leadership and expelled Kachikwu and others. The dual conventions have deepened a leadership crisis within the ADC ahead of the next general elections.

Do you think this decision will unite the party grassroots or risk alienating some supporters?

It's striking how the ADC dissolved the Mark-led NWC immediately after confirming Kachikwu at the Abuja convention.

I'm not convinced that replacing the Mark committee will automatically translate into broader voter support for ADC.

ADC leaders should immediately engage local chapters and address internal concerns to avoid losing momentum before 2027.
