FCT Patients Allege Cash-Only Payments and Missing Receipts at Public Hospitals
Patients and caregivers at public hospitals in Abuja’s satellite towns have alleged that some facilities demand cash payments for cards, tests, admissions, drugs and other services. Some also claimed they were sent to nearby PoS agents or given personal bank accounts for transfers without receiving official receipts. The allegations were reported at facilities including Kubwa, Bwari, Nyanya and the Nigeria Customs Service Hospital in Karu. Several patients said the practice creates delays and accountability concerns, especially during emergencies, while boosting business for PoS operators outside hospital premises. Other hospital users said they paid through official channels and received receipts. Bwari and Kubwa General Hospital managements asked affected patients to submit evidence for investigation, while the Nigeria Customs Service said it is deploying PoS terminals and requires receipts for all payments.
