Ekiti Church Worshippers Held Hostage as Kidnappers Demand ₦1bn Ransom
Fifteen worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church No. 2 in Eda-Oniyo, Ilejemeje LGA of Ekiti were abducted during a Tuesday night vigil. A guest pastor was killed in the attack. The Eleda of Eda-Oniyo, Oba Joseph Awolola, said the kidnappers are demanding a ₦1 billion ransom for the release of the captives. Among those seized is a family of four, including a mother and her three children. A government delegation led by Brig-Gen Ebenezer Ogundana, the governor’s Special Adviser on Security, alongside the State Commissioner of Police and the Ilejemeje Council Chairman, visited the community to coordinate rescue efforts. The Ekiti government has deployed the 148 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, the Amotekun Corps and other security agencies. Full-scale surveillance operations are underway to track down the abductors and ensure no further incidents.
