Reps Seek KPMG Report as NBTE Raises Alarm Over Two Years Without Capital Grants
The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Polytechnics and Higher Technical Education says it will review the KPMG assessment of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) before recommending reforms for the agency. During an oversight visit to the NBTE headquarters, committee chairman Fuad Kayode Laguda said lawmakers had requested the report and other documents related to the Board’s funding, capital projects, contracts and internally generated revenue. He said the committee would consider ways to improve both government funding and NBTE’s revenue generation. NBTE Executive Secretary Idris Muhammad Bugaje said the Board has not received capital grants in the past two years, forcing it to suspend projects. He added that the KPMG report identified inadequate funding and recommended restructuring, while the Board is also working to shut illegal centres and phase out non-technology courses from polytechnics.
