85-Year-Old Edo Woman Arrested With 179kg of Cannabis Begs for Forgiveness

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State says it arrested an 85-year-old woman, Grace Ehimeka, with 179 kilograms of cannabis at her home in Warake, Owan East LGA. The agency said the arrest was part of coordinated raids in Warake, Ivbiaro and Ewe Uzeba communities between October 15 and 16. Five other suspects were also arrested, while officers recovered a total of 407.39kg of cannabis, as well as loud, tramadol, diazepam and swinol. Ehimeka reportedly admitted owning the cannabis and said she began selling it more than two years ago to survive as a widow. She pleaded for another chance and promised to stop. The NDLEA said age would not excuse drug-related offences and that investigations and enforcement operations would continue across the state.
