Violence in Jos Claims Two UNIJOS Students, Four Others Injured
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Tanko Shaya, has confirmed the deaths of two students following recent violence in the state capital. Abel Gershon, a 300-level Building Department student, was shot in the stomach on March 29. He later died in the Jos University Teaching Hospital on April 5. A 500-level Quantity Survey student, Adeyomo Temitope, left campus on April 1 and encountered hoodlums on Bauchi Road. He was shot and attacked with a machete and died at the scene. Four other students and one staff member were injured and are now receiving treatment in hospital. Prof. Shaya expressed sympathy to the families of the victims and stressed that the university would reopen on April 13 as planned. He assured parents that enhanced security measures are in place across the campus and its host communities. The recent unrest began with an attack on Angwan Rukuba community on March 29, prompting a 48-hour curfew before violence spread further once restrictions were lifted.
