Ebonyi Assembly Considers Agency to Sustain IFAD Agricultural Projects
The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has received a bill to establish the Ebonyi State Agricultural Value Chain Development Agency. The proposed agency would sustain and expand gains from the FGN/IFAD Value Chain Development Programme after it winds down in 2027. Since 2015, the programme has supported rural farmers through rice and cassava production, processing, marketing, training and farm-input distribution. It has also delivered rural roads, market facilities, solar-powered boreholes, irrigation infrastructure, mini-bridges and culverts. Lawmakers on the Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources said they were prepared to support the bill's passage, describing the proposed agency as a way to preserve the programme's benefits for Ebonyi farmers.
