NAFDAC Warns Nigerians Over Suspected Fake Forxiga Diabetes Drugs
NAFDAC has warned Nigerians about suspected counterfeit versions of Forxiga, a prescription medicine used for Type 2 diabetes, heart failure and chronic kidney disease. The agency said the suspected products, identified as Forzigar and Foziga, were found in Eastern Nigeria. They reportedly use packaging and branding similar to the genuine AstraZeneca-made Forxiga tablets. Fake medicines may contain wrong ingredients, unsafe contaminants, incorrect doses or no active ingredient at all. NAFDAC has begun investigating the products' source and distribution channels. Its zonal directors and state coordinators have also been directed to conduct surveillance and remove counterfeit stock from circulation. Consumers and health workers should buy medicines only from licensed pharmacies and authorised distributors. Anyone who sees suspicious products should report them to NAFDAC.
