Nasarawa Police Foil Kidnap Plot, Neutralise Notorious Suspect on Eggon-Akwanga Highway
On March 23, 2026, operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command foiled an attempted kidnapping on the Nasarawa Eggon–Akwanga Highway near Rice Mill. A patrol team discovered the road blocked with stones by armed suspects. When officers moved in, the hoodlums opened fire, prompting a swift response. In the ensuing exchange, one suspect was shot and the others fled into nearby bushland. The injured suspect was rushed to a medical facility, where he was later confirmed dead. Authorities identified him as Auta Habu of a Ruga settlement in Gidan Waya, previously linked to multiple criminal acts. Reinforcements quickly secured the area and cleared the highway for motorists. The police have urged the public to report any suspicious behaviour as they pursue the remaining gang members and uphold safety across the state.
