UK-Based Nigerian Alleges Travel Agent Added Fake Wife to Visa Application
A UK-based Nigerian, Emmanuel Opeyemi Makinde, told an FCT High Court in Abuja that a travel agent allegedly added a woman he had never met as his wife on a 2022 student visa application. Makinde said he discovered the alleged marriage after requesting his records from the UK Home Office in 2024. He told the court that the application form, which he says was withheld from him, listed Dolapo Afusat Yusuf as his spouse. He said the alleged false record later affected an application for his actual wife to join him in the UK. According to his testimony, officials requested a divorce certificate for the alleged previous marriage, while his visa was later cancelled. The defendant is standing trial over the alleged fraudulent marriage arrangement. The case was adjourned until November 11, 2026.
