Osun Government Defends UNIOSUN VC’s Tenure Extension Amid ASUU Objections
The Osun State Government has defended the extension of UNIOSUN Vice-Chancellor Professor Clement Adebooye’s tenure, following objections from the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The government said the tenure remains valid until January 2027 and was not extended arbitrarily. It said Governor Ademola Adeleke acted as the university’s Visitor, while the Osun State House of Assembly amended the institution’s enabling law to provide a legal basis for the extension. According to the government, ASUU may raise concerns about university administration but cannot override powers assigned by law to the Visitor, Governing Council and state legislature. It urged staff and students to avoid actions that could create tension as the university prepares for its 16th convocation.
