Akwa Ibom to Host Maiden La Reine Cycling Marathon in October

Akwa Ibom State will host the maiden La Reine Cycling Marathon in Uyo from October 26 to November 1, 2026. Professional and amateur cyclists from across Nigeria are expected to take part. The event will feature elite male and female riders, amateurs, juniors, veterans and fun riders. Elite and amateur competitors will ride a 100-kilometre route through parts of Uyo, while fun riders will take part in 25-kilometre and 10-kilometre rides. The race, sanctioned by the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, will end at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. Road safety officials, police, medical teams, ambulances and marshals are expected to support the event. Organisers say the marathon will promote fitness, discover cycling talent and showcase Akwa Ibom as a destination for sports tourism. Cash prizes and wellness packages will be available, while plans are underway to make it an annual competition.
