NPFL Fines Inter Lagos ₦5.25m, Docks Three Points and Goals Over Officials’ Assault
The Nigeria Premier Football League has fined Inter Lagos ₦5.25 million and deducted three points and three goals after match officials were attacked following Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Katsina United. The league said the club failed to provide adequate security, allowing unauthorised persons into restricted areas. The officials were allegedly held for more than an hour after the match, while some were intimidated, harassed and verbally abused. The NPFL said the club’s team manager and some supporters assaulted the officials, leaving the first assistant referee with a facial injury and damaged personal items. Inter Lagos have 48 hours to appeal the sanctions and remain 19th on five points after seven matches.
