Senate Orders Arrest of TikTok Bandits Flaunting ₦100M Giveaway

Senate Orders Arrest of TikTok Bandits Flaunting ₦100M Giveaway

The Senate has urged security agencies to step up surveillance and arrest bandits who openly display their criminal proceeds on TikTok. Lawmakers backed a motion by Senator Sunday Karimi citing rising attacks in Kogi West and beyond. Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan pressed the police and National Cybercrime Centre to track these online profiles and make arrests. She warned that armed groups now flaunt ill-got wealth and even stage social media “giveaways,” with one recent event moving over ₦100 million in 30 minutes. Senate President Godswill Akpabio echoed calls for an urgent national security response and public accountability once suspects are detained. Some forum users also criticised the pace of action, arguing that real change would be felt quickly once authorities commit to enforcement.

I'm not convinced more arrests will stop the TikTok show-off. Crackdowns without community engagement rarely curb these flash crimes.
