Nigerian Lawyer Blames Poor Upbringing of Men for Most Marital Breakdowns
A Nigerian lawyer has argued that many marriages break down because some men are not raised to handle commitment, discipline and accountability. Drawing on three years of counselling couples in more than 100 marriages, she said she believes men’s upbringing accounts for much of the serious damage seen in troubled relationships. She added that parents, especially those raising sons, should place more emphasis on responsibility and emotional maturity. Her view is likely to spark debate over whether family upbringing, individual choices or both are the bigger factors behind marital problems.
